Embracing Your Role in God's Plan: Get in the Game

Have you ever felt like you're on the sidelines of your own life, watching others take the field while you hesitate, unsure of your next move? You're not alone. Many of us, at some point, have felt this way, especially in our spiritual journey. But what if I told you that you were made for more? That God has a unique role for you in His grand plan? This isn't just about attending church or reading your Bible—it's about stepping into the life you were created for, a life of purpose and impact.

In our recent sermon, we explored the concept of discipleship and how it calls us to move beyond mere spectatorship in our faith. Discipleship is about actively participating in God's mission, not just for our own growth but to help others grow too. It's about forming deep, loving relationships that reflect the love Jesus has for us. So, how do we get off the sidelines and into the game?

Understanding Your Purpose

You were made for a mission. From the very beginning, God commissioned humanity to be fruitful and multiply, to fill the earth and subdue it. This isn't just about physical growth but spiritual multiplication. Jesus reiterated this mission in the Great Commission, calling us to make disciples of all nations. This is the life you were made for—a life of purpose, where you play an active role in God's plan.

What is Discipleship?

Discipleship might sound like a big, churchy word, but it's simply about following Jesus and helping others do the same. It's about living and loving like Jesus, and inviting others to join you on that journey. The Apostle Paul put it this way: "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1). Discipleship is about relationships—deep, meaningful connections where we share not just the gospel, but our lives.

How to Get in the Game

1. Build Loving Relationships: Jesus said that people will know we are His disciples by our love for one another. This means forming relationships where love is evident. Do the people you are discipling know that you love them? This is foundational.

2. Join a Group: Whether it's a life group or a smaller discipleship group, being part of a community is crucial. These groups provide a space for deeper connection, accountability, and growth. If you're not in a group, consider joining one or starting one.

3. Be Intentional: Discipleship doesn't happen by accident. It requires intentionality. Reach out to someone you feel called to disciple or ask someone to disciple you. It's about taking that first step.

4. Embrace Your Role: Remember, you don't have to be perfect to be used by God. He uses imperfect people to accomplish His perfect plan. Trust that He has equipped you for this mission.

Conclusion

The point is, Jesus wants you to be an active participant in His mission. What will you do this week to step into your role? Will you reach out to someone to start a discipleship relationship? Will you join a group to grow in community? Without taking this step, you might miss out on the incredible life God has planned for you.
